Ashley HomeStore Continues Hope to Dream Day Tradition in Spite of Covid-19
More than 100 children on the First Coast received free bed sets and backpacks from Ashley HomeStore this week.
Even Covid-19 couldn’t stop Ashely HomeStore from celebrating Hope to Dream™ Day and donating more than 100 complete bed sets this week to children on the First Coast. Since 2016, August 8th has been dedicated as Hope to Dream™ Day by Mayor Lenny Curry and is a day of celebration that is typically Ashley HomeStore’s biggest annual event and largest delivery of free bed sets to local children. In lieu of a group event, recipients were invited into one of five Ashley HomeStore locations to pick up backpacks filled with school supplies, bedding sets and lots of treats, while maintaining safety and social distancing protocols.
“At the end of the day, this is about celebrating the kids,” said Chris Caprio, president of Ashley HomeStore – Jacksonville. “We are not going to let the pandemic get in the way of making these kids feel special and preparing them for school with the gift of a good night’s sleep. It’s too important to them and to our team.”
Hope to Dream™ is Ashley HomeStore’s community program that gives free beds to children in need by allocating a portion of each mattress sale to the program. Since the start of Hope to Dream™ in Jacksonville in 2010, over 100,000 beds nationally and over 3,000 beds locally have been donated. This year, it is Ashley HomeStore’s goal to donate 400 beds by the end of 2020. On Hope to Dream™ Day an additional mattress is donated to a local child for every mattress purchase made that day.
“I am grateful for the continued generosity of Ashley HomeStore as we celebrate another Hope to Dream™ Day in Jacksonville,” said Mayor Lenny Curry. “This year, Ashley HomeStore has selected families served by the Northwest Community Development Corporation and Noah’s Ark to receive beds, bedding, and backpacks. These community partners are leading Cure Violence in their communities and know that the gift of a good night’s sleep is an important contributor to our children’s development and academic success.”
In addition to helping families in the Cure Violence coalition, Hope to Dream™ recipients come from child-serving organizations throughout the First Coast including MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, The Boys and Girls Club, Children’s Home Society, The Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation, The Salvation Army and many others, as well as from applications received in Ashley HomeStore locations and at http://www.ahopetodream.com.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, sleep problems and disorders are prevalent between the ages of 6-13. Poor or inadequate sleep can lead to mood swings, behavioral problems such as ADHD and cognitive problems that impact on their ability to learn in school.
A portion of the proceeds from every mattress purchase at Ashley HomeStore benefits local children in need. Families in need of beds for children 3-17 should complete an application in any local Ashley HomeStore showroom or online at http://www.ahopetodream.com.
