Ashley HomeStore partnered with the Miami Dolphins to surprise 100 underprivileged children with the gift of comfortable new beds at the second annual South Florida Hope to Dream Sleepover on June 22. Each of the children, who’ve had less than ideal sleeping conditions, enjoyed a sleepover party on the team’s training field at the Baptist Health Training Center, where they received their very own twin-size bed and bedding donated by Ashley HomeStore, decked out with a Miami Dolphins comforter. The event was 2018’s first Ashley HomeStore Hope to Dream sleepover hosted by an NFL team.
“Seeing the surprise and joy on so many kids’ faces makes this an event we love creating with the Dolphins,” said Keith Koenig, president of City Furniture, the Southeast and Southwest Florida licensee for Ashley HomeStore. “The children had the chance to party on the training field and get up-close with players, and it’s great knowing they’ll rest easy on their new beds for years to come.”
The Hope to Dream event in South Florida hosted by the Miami Dolphins was the latest football-themed sleepover for Ashley HomeStore’s international Hope to Dream initiative. At the event, the kids had dinner, toured the Dolphins locker room and burned off some energy with fun games and activities. They didn’t know that behind pipe and drape curtains, the beds were arranged on the field, with a teddy bear and child’s nametag on each bed. For the “big reveal,” kids wore sleep masks while the curtains were pulled back. Koenig quickly explained the surprise, the children took off their masks, shrieked with delight and ran to find their beds. After the surprise was revealed, Miami Dolphins players Andre Branch, Davon Godchaux, Xavien Howard and Raekwon McMillan, along with cheerleaders and team mascot TD, hosted a dance party with the kids on their brand new beds. The beds were delivered to the children’s homes the next day.
Ashley HomeStore, the largest furniture retailer in the U.S., dedicates a portion of proceeds from every mattress sale at participating locations to its Hope to Dream program, which has donated 50,000 new beds and bedding to children in need since 2010. All Ashley HomeStore locations in Miami-Dade through Indian River counties in South Florida and in Naples and Fort Myers on the state’s west coast are active year-round in the Hope to Dream charity’s donation program.
Also helping bring this year’s South Florida Hope to Dream Sleepover to life were Simmons Serta, Bedgear and Mantua.
